Life insurance is a type of insurance policy that can provide financial support to your loved ones when you pass away. It can offer this in a lump sum payment, which can help clear outstanding debts, such as your mortgage, and give your family money to live off, so your partner or children can continue to pay bills and living expenses.
There are different types of life insurance – some of which may include Critical Illness cover. Critical illness cover is a type of life insurance policy that offers protection in the event of a serious illness or injury.
Having cancer may affect the type of cover you can get – so we would recommend seeking independent financial guidance and advice before buying a policy or making a claim

Neuroendocrine Cancer UK is a UK wide charity solely dedicated to providing support and information to those affected by Neuroendocrine Cancer.
Planning and managing your finances can become more important when you have cancer. Neuroendocrine Cancer patient and South East Natter Co-ordinator, John Surgenor, has very kindly offered to use his professional expertise and skills as a Chartered Financial Planner to provide financial guidance to the Neuroendocrine Cancer community.
John’s approach to financial planning is shaped by his own life experience – in 2009 he was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in his small intestine, and was given two years to live. This very quickly made him realise one thing: time is precious and life is to be lived. John’s professional focus is therefore to help people live life to the full: he helps them to identify exactly what sort of life they want, and through financial planning, designs a plan to help them get there.
John holds the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and is regulated through the Financial Conduct Authority.
