It was June 2018, I was in LA filming season 2 of the TV show Counterpart, pretending to be in need of life-saving surgery, pretending to have something very important to say, and not being able to say it. But 27 hours earlier, I’d been on a real trolley in a real hospital – for a needle biopsy to discover the exact nature of a 7×4 cm tumour that had been growing in my pancreas for over 4 years.
